It remains CRITICAL to help city and county leadership understand the impact of Alliant's proposed rate increases on Main Street businesses.
As the CEDI Coalition prepares for an Iowa Utilities Board hearing regarding Alliant Energy’s proposed rate increases, it’s CRITICAL to help city and county leadership understand that Main Street businesses will likely see much greater impact.
Please present or circulate these verified points to your local business leaders and county representatives:
- Alliant’s notice to Main Street businesses, indicating a proposed increase of “20 percent,” does not adequately describe the range of possible rate increases. According the CEDI calculations for Alliant rate classes, Main Street businesses, almost all of which are billed under Alliant’s general service tariff (rate class 600), will likely see an increase ranging between +15% to +39%. It is a matter of public record that CEDI has analyzed the likely impact of the proposed rate increase on a Main Street restaurant in Decorah, Iowa, and estimate that it will be +39%.
- If your bills show that you used “2nd Step” energy, your increase will probably be more than 20% because Alliant is proposing to eliminate the lower-cost “step” rates.
How to Get Involved
It is not too late to comment on Alliant’s proposed rate changes, but the window is closing fast.
Alliant ratepayers who oppose this increase may voice their perspectives and concerns to the Iowa Utilities Board by submitting comments and objections by email to customer@iub.iowa.gov or by mail at Iowa Utilities Board, 1375 E. Court Avenue, Des Moines, IA 50319-0069. All communication should reference Docket RPU-2023-0002 in the subject line of the email or letter.
