Allamakee Energy District Hires Interim Outreach and Engagement Coordinator

Allamakee Energy District has added James Martin-Schramm as Interim Outreach and Engagement Coordinator to facilitate several initiatives over the next few months. One of these involves helping the City of Lansing (IA) and Allamakee County navigate the transition following the closure of its coal power plant near Lansing.

One of his duties in this role will be to continue convening meetings of the Lansing Transition Group, which is an ad hoc group of concerned citizens, elected officials, and school district employees concerned about how the closure of the power plant will affect the county and the city of Lansing.
Other duties include:
  • Communicating with Alliant Energy about potential post-closure uses of the power plant site.
  • Collaborating with the AED Board of Directors, elected leaders, county officials, and other leaders to identify major community needs (e.g., affordable housing, workforce development, economic development, clean energy, etc.)
  • Identifying possible federal funding sources to address these needs and attend webinars related to them.
  • Requesting support from the Just Transition Fund to help with the development of at least one high-quality federal funding application.
  • Organizing efforts to complete one or more funding applications.
  • Engaging with local officials and area businesses interested in renewables and energy efficiency.
  • Engaging with AED board and CEDI as appropriate regarding work plan activities.
  • Preparing a final report summarizing activities completed at end of the contract term.
